ETHIOPIAN AIRLINES HAS CONDUCTED IT’S FIRST DIRECT PASSENGER FLIGHTS BETWEEN ADDIS ABABA AND ASMARA, RECONNECTING ERITREA AND ETHIOPIA AFTER A 20-YEAR MILITARY STANDOFF.
THE AIRLINE’S CHIEF EXECUTIVE, TEWOLDE GEBREMARIAM, WHILE SPEAKING ON WEDNESDAY AT A CEREMONY TO INAUGURATE THE HISTORIC FLIGHT, STATED THAT THE DAY MARKS A UNIQUE EVENT IN THE HISTORY OF ETHIOPIA AND ERITREA.
IT CAN BE RECALLED THAT ETHIOPIA’S PRIME MINISTER ABIY AHMED, VISITED ERITREA’S CAPITAL, ASMARA, ON JULY 9TH TO SIGN A LANDMARK AGREEMENT WITH PRESIDENT ISAIAS AFWERKI, FORMALLY ENDING THE “STATE OF WAR” BETWEEN BOTH NATIONS.
