THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH HAS RECALLED 2.4 MILLION BOTTLES OF COUGH SYRUP CONTAINING CODEINE AFTER A RECENT AUDIT OF THE SUBSTANCE CARRIED OUT BY THE NATIONAL AGENCY FOR FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION AND CONTROL.

ACCORDING TO A STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY’S DIRECTOR MEDIA AND PUBLIC RELATIONS, BOADE AKINOLA, ON SUNDAY IN ABUJA, THE RECALL DEMONSTRATED THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S DETERMINATION TO CHECK THE ABUSE OF CODEINE AND OTHER SUBSTANCES IN NIGERIA

IT CAN BE RECALLED THAT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ON MAY 1ST, 2018, BANNED THE PRODUCTION AND IMPORTATION OF CODEINE AS AN ACTIVE PHARMACEUTICAL INGREDIENT FOR COUGH SYRUP PREPARATIONS TO CHECK SUBSTANCE ABUSE AMONG NIGERIANS.
