DRAKE’S RECORD-BREAKING PROJECT EARNED 260,000 EQUIVALENT ALBUM UNITS—MAKING IT THE FIRST ALBUM SINCE ADELE’S 25 IN 2015 TO PULL IN AT LEAST 260,000 UNITS IN EACH OF ITS FIRST THREE WEEKS.

AS EXPECTED, THE MAJORITY OF DRAKE’S TOTALS CAME FROM STREAMING. 82 PERCENT OF HIS ALBUM SCORPION‘S  WAS MADE UP OF STREAMING UNITS, WHILE TRADITIONAL ALBUM SALES TOTALED 29,000. IN ITS THIRD WEEK, THE ALBUM RACKED UP 290.4 MILLION ON-DEMAND AUDIO STREAMS.

THIS FOLLOWED THE LARGEST STREAMING OPENING WEEK EVER WHEN SCORPION TOTALED 745.9 MILLION ON-DEMAND STREAMS IN WEEK ONE. THE ALBUM’S WEEK TWO TOTAL CLOCKED IN AT 391 MILLION ON-DEMAND STREAMS. SCORPION WASN’T RELEASED ON CD UNTIL JULY 13, WHICH SOME INDUSTRY EXPERTS SAY MAY HAVE COST HIM AROUND HALF A MILLION DOLLARS IN PHYSICAL SALES.
